Can I get NetSpeak if I'm not a C&W customer?

A: Yes. All you have to do is visit a C&W retail store to signup for service and use it over any other Internet provider’s high speed Internet service providing a minimum Bandwidth of 128 kbps, however, C&W recommends a minimum Bandwidth of 256 kbps

Do I need an Internet connection?

A: Yes. You need a broadband or high speed Internet connection with an Ethernet modem enabled with Session Internet Protocol (SIP).

Do I need a PC or special software to make it work?

A: No. Netspeak works even without a PC.

What equipment do I need to buy?

A: None, if you already have your Ethernet modem that supports Session Initiation Protocol SIP. You’ll get your NetSpeak device when you signup for service.

How can I get NetSpeak?

A: If you are an existing C&W residential customer you can apply online at http://wwww.candw.ky. A customer requiring new service should visit a C&W retail store to signup for service.

Can I still be online while the phone’s is being used?

A: Yes. That’s one of the great benefits of Broadband.

Can I install and set it up myself?

A: Yes it’s really simple to install NetSpeak using the Getting Started Guide.

Do I need a second line for NetSpeak?

A: No. You can have your current telephone line upgraded to Broadband so that you can enjoy both telephone and Internet access.

What does 'unlimited' really mean?

A: If you have an ‘unlimited’ plan this means that all calls you make to that country or countries in that plan will be included in your monthly plan fee, and you will not be charged a separate per-minute fee, except for calls made to mobile phones which are not included in some ‘unlimited’ plans.

Can I use it if I'm traveling?

A: Yes you can take your NetSpeak device anywhere in the world and use it. All you need is a broadband or high-speed Internet connection, an Ethernet modem that supports Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), and a telephone. However, we recommend you do not use your NetSpeak device to make “911” calls while you are traveling, as the service will not work as expected. All “911” calls made on the NetSpeak device are routed to the Emergency Communications Centre in the Cayman Islands, even when you are traveling, and not to an emergency call centre where you are. We recommend you find another phone for your 911 calls when you are outside of the Cayman Islands.

How do I actually make a call?

A: Pickup the handset connected to the NetSpeak device and dial your number. To call within Cayman Islands, dial the 7-digit local number as you would normally. To make an international call, dial your overseas number as you normally would from a traditional fixed or mobile phone.

Do I need any additional accessories to start making calls?

A: To use the NetSpeak service, you need a broadband Internet connection, a NetSpeak terminal adaptor, a standard phone, and, in some situations, a router.

What is “broadband”?

A: A broadband Internet connection is an ADSL, DSL, LAN, T1, T3, LAN, WAN, cable modem or any other high-speed ‘always on’ connection. If you have to dial up to an access number to reach the Internet then you do not have broadband.

Do I need to have my computer turned on to make a call?

A: No. A computer is not used to make NetSpeak calls. For setup details, refer to the device User’s Guide.

What happens if there is a problem with my high-speed Internet service provider?

A: The NetSpeak service is dependent on your high-speed Internet connection, so if your connection is not working, the NetSpeak service will not work. If you are a Cable & Wireless Broadband customer, contact Customer Support at 811 on the Cable & Wireless network to resolve the connection problem. If you are not a C&W Broadband customer, contact your local ISP.

Will NetSpeak work without a power supply?

A: Just like a regular phone line, it’s very rare that your Broadband line will not work. For NetSpeak to work you’ll need power to make both the NetSpeak device and your Ethernet modem to work. Lack of power may affect your access to 911 or emergency services.

What is a Terminal Adapter? Why do I need one?

A: A terminal adapter, or MTA, allows you to use a standard or cordless telephone to make calls over your broadband Internet connection. If you are using a standard telephone with your NetSpeak service, you need a NetSpeak terminal adapter.

Can I use a regular phone -- or even a cordless phone – with the terminal adapter?

A: Yes. Any standard telephone will work with NetSpeak. Connect the base of your cordless phone to your telephone adapter and walk around your house while you talk.

What about calls to the rest of the world?

A: You can call any country in the world using NetSpeak service, but calls to the rest-of-the-world are not included in the currenetly offered pricing plans. If you make a call to a country not included in your plan, it will be charged as an out-of-plan call. Call rates for NetSpeak service are available at www.cwinternet.ky/go/netspeak.

How do I get billed?

A: C&W will bill you each month for your NetSpeak plan and call charges.

Can people call me on NetSpeak from overseas?

A: Yes, they can call your Cayman NetSpeak number as they would to a regular phone line and at their regular international call rates. If you want your friends and family to be able to save money when they call you from UK, USA or Canada, choose one of the NetSpeak Local Number or Toll-Free optional plans.

Why is NetSpeak better than other similar products?

A: NetSpeak has been designed with you, the Cayman customer, in mind. The plans are based on typical calling patterns that exist here. NetSpeak offers you a local Cayman number so that you and your friends and family who live in the Cayman Islands can call each other, and pay the same local call rates. And your NetSpeak number can be listed in the local phone directory.

What about making 911 emergency calls?

A: All “911” calls will be routed to the Emergency Communications Center in the Cayman Islands only. It’s your responsibility to advise C&W of your new street address where you will be using NetSpeak service. Again, you should be aware that some features, including access to 911, may not work when you are using NetSpeak outside the Cayman Islands.
